Bangle Sizing Guide - How to Measure Your Bangle Bracelet Size?

Finding the right bangle size takes about one minute and requires nothing more than a ruler or a soft measuring tape. This guide shows you two easy ways to measure your hand at home, explains how bangle sizes like 2.8 actually work, and gives you a complete size chart covering everything from infant bangles to size 3.0.

What Do Bangle Sizes Like 2.8 Mean?

Traditional bangle sizes describe the inner diameter of the bangle in inches, expressed in sixteenths. The number after the dot is not a decimal — it is the numerator of a fraction over 16:

2.8  =  2 8/16″  =  2.5 inches across the inside

So a size 2.10 bangle (2 10/16″ = 2.625″) is larger than a size 2.8, even though "10" might look smaller than "8" at first glance. This system is the standard used for Indian gold bangles and for the gold-plated bangles we carry.

How to Measure Your Bangle Size at Home

Option 1: Ruler Across the Knuckles

Place your hand flat on a table, palm down, with your fingers together and relaxed. Using a ruler, measure the distance between the mid-point of your pinky finger and the mid-point of your index finger — straight across the knuckles. Then match your measurement to the Hand Width column in the chart below. For example, a hand width of 6.5 cm falls closest to 6.4 cm, which is size 2.8 (our Regular fit).

Option 2: Tape Measure Around the Hand

Tuck your thumb into your palm as if you were sliding a bangle on. Wrap a soft measuring tape around the widest point of your hand — usually across the knuckles with the thumb folded in. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Match your measurement to the Circumference column below. If your hand measures about 8 inches (20 cm) around, size 2.8 will slide on comfortably.

Fit Tips From Our Workshop

Size 2.8 (Regular) is the most common women's bangle size in the United States and fits the majority of medium hands. If you have never worn bangles before and cannot measure, 2.8 is the safest starting point. Size 2.6 suits petite hands and slender wrists, while 2.10 and 2.12 work well for larger hands or for anyone who prefers a looser, free-moving fit.

Remember that a bangle only needs to clear your hand once — after that, it rests loosely on the wrist, which is much narrower. A little resistance at the knuckles while sliding it on is normal. Applying a small amount of lotion makes bangles glide on more easily, and folding your hand into a narrow "bird beak" shape (fingers and thumb pinched together) reduces the width the bangle has to pass over.
